I'm Brittney Leigh O'Neill, a self-taught artist from Calgary, Alberta, with First Nations Cree and Irish roots. My art has been a deeply personal journey of self-expression and discovery, providing a blank canvas for thoughts, and a medium full of emotion. Painting has revealed itself to me to be anything but a production line, there's no space for robotic expectation. As I learn more about myself, I continue to realize the importance of listening to the ideas that whisper from the void, to take a step back when needed, and to cultivate creativity in different forms to allow a momentum of unexpressed energy to be birthed into something new.
My creative path began with bold-figure art, exploring self-acceptance through raw emotion of the human form. Within my continuation of embracing curiosity, my art has evolved to mirror the direction in which my experiences unfold, stepping outside of the box to explore the endless possibilities of life. Currently, as a first-year philosophy major, it's the deeper questions that intrigue and inspire me. Leaning into the unknown, welcoming change, and finding comfort in the mystery. Each piece I create is not just a reflection of my inner world but also an invitation for others to delve into the depths of their own.
